Dr Bernie Brenner

Areas of interest:

Bernie graduated from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg with an MB BCh degree and then undertook specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the Royal Australian College and a Foundation Fellow of the Royal New Zealand College.

Bernie and his family immigrated to New Zealand in 1976, He has worked in medical positions in several countries including South Africa, Israel, Hong Kong, Australia, United Kingdom and New Zealand.

Bernie holds an MBA and MPhil in Information Systems from Massey University. He has a BA in Philosophy and Logic from the University of South Africa and has also completed the Diploma in Professional Ethics at Aucklnad University.

He is a founding member of the Australian Gynaecological Endoscopy Society and an Executive member of the Australian Menopause Society.

He is also a member of the American Urogynaecology Society.

He has presented papers at many national and international conferences and has published articles in several leading medical journals.

He has published a book "Incontinence is NO Laughing Matter". This is easy reading and very informative on the subject.

Dr Ammar Al-Abid


Ammar is a certified Obstetrician and Gynaecologist working in our practice.

Ammar completed his MB ChB in Iraq, graduating from the University of Baghdad in 1988. He started his surgical training at the Medical City University Hospital in Iraq before immigrating to New Zealand with his wife in 1994

He did 4 years of general surgery training before starting a six year post-graduate programme in his preferred specialty of obstetrics and gynaecology. Ammar completed this training at National Women's Health in Auckland Hospital and the Women's Health Obstetric and Gynaecology department at North Shore Hospital.  He gained his certification as a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2008.

Ammar splits his time between his private gynaecology and obstetric practices and his consultant position at North Shore Hospital, where is is actively involved in training, teaching and mentoring registrars undertaking the FRANZCOG specialist training programme.

Ammar practices a broad range of women's health care  including : contraceptive management, general gynaecological issues such as pelvic pain, irregular bleeding, abnormal smears, polycystic ovarian syndrome and prolapse as well as gynaecologic and uro-gynaecologic surgeries, menopause management and obstetric care..

He is committed to providing innovative, safe,caring, and high quality care to his patients.  He works hard to build long lasting relationships with his patients and encourages patients to take an active role in medical and surgical treatment decisions and values discussion and a team approach to care planning.  His patients receive individual attention and outstanding care from his entire team

Sylvia is a New Zealand Registered Dietitian and Integrative Nutritionist with a love for all things health and wellness. The way we eat and how we live are key to building a healthy body.
